Mayor’s Report – May 2016

May Fair – Sunday 1st It was on a warm but overcast day that Sandra and I made our way to the Silk Mill, the venue for this event organised by the Whitchurch Festival Committee. Youngsters had come out in the hopes of becoming crowned May Queen or the winner as best dressed pirate or princess. Well after dancing around the maypole we had the difficult task of judging both May Queen (and Princess) and pirate.  Not as many people […]

Youth Options Awards Presentation Evening – Thursday 11th February A journey to Crosfield Hall in Romsey to the venue for the awards presentation evening for Youth Options was, as usual, well worth the journey. The welcome from Chairman Mike Gretton was short, with an overview of another past successful year, with a special mention of the 25 years service of the Chief Executive Mark Dixon. Funding as with most organisations is a challenge which Youth Options have been particularly successful with […]

Mayor’s Report December 2015 – January 2016

December 4Youth Awards presentation evening – Tuesday 1st It was my great pleasure and privilege to attend the 4Youth (formerly Youth Clubs Hampshire and IoW) presentation evening at Marwell Hotel. It was special for Sandra and I who, with our daughter Maria, had spent several months in close contact with YCH& IoW during Jubilee year 2000 as we created what is now the Whitchurch Youth Project. During the evening presentations were made to various clubs and their volunteer leaders and […]

Basingstoke Variety Show – 3rd October By invitation of the Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane, Cllr Anne Court, we attended the Basingstoke Variety Show at the Anvil. A terrific line up of local talent entertained the packed auditorium. If the Mayoress and I had to choose the act which impressed us the most it would have to be the sparkling and unique display of dance and acrobatics performed using shopping trolleys by the Basingstoke Gang Show with their item entitled […]

Farewell to Victoria – Sunday 6th September Victoria had been a curate in training at All Hallows in Whitchurch for the ministry for the last three years. She had made a great impact on many folks in the town and beyond and was a great people person who did a lot of visiting of local folks at home and in hospital. She had a very real gift of a listening ear and was much loved in the community. This was […]

Celebrating 10 years – Wednesday 20th May Following an invitation to the Whitchurch Toy Library, the Mayoress and I spent a very happy morning with the adults and children celebrating 10 years of service to families in Whitchurch.  As well as the volunteers that had been there from the start, there were others who had helped and moved on and those that hopefully will be encouraged to join the weekly library, committee and helpers in keeping this most valuable asset […]
